Elements of design

 Elements of Design

There are four elements to design: Point, Line, Plane, and Volume,

The first element, the Point, is noticeable as one enters, and it has 4 different states. The stable point within a visual field. The aggressive point within a visual field and  Two points connecting a line and a point extended

The second element, Line, gives out different types of feel, such as how horizontal lines give out a calm and grounded feel. Vertical lines give out a presence of strength and business and are mostly used in community spaces diagonal lines give out a sense of movement, and curved lines give out a sense of gentleness and graceful Personally, my favorite line is horizontal since it gives out a sense of groundedness.

The third element, Planes, has two dominant dimensions: length and width or height and width.

The fourth element is Volume. Volume in interior design refers to multiple planes. Positive Space is Solid mass, like the objects occupying a space in a room. These can be architectural elements or decorative items. Negative Space, or Void, is space that is left empty. It can create feelings of grandeur, and negative space gives rest to the eye.

Sketches assignment

This assignment was a bit hard to do upsidedown, but it was fun to do. I decided to draw the building figure 15.4 on pg 346 from the textbook History of Furniture. It is the Gothic revival house Holly Springs Mississippi 1857

I enjoyed hearing that your favorite line type is horizontal because it gives a feeling of roundedness. I appreciate the horizontal line too. Your sketches were well done! 25/25 points
